OSSTEM Implant develops and productizes “CMP-coated implant” for the first time

– “3rd-generation surface processing technology” developed for the first time in the world

OSSTEM IMPLANT has successfully developed and productized the “CMP coating technology,” a 3rd-generation surface processing technology applied to dental implants and approved by the Korea Food & Drug Administration.

The “CMP-coated implant” developed by OSSTEM IMPLANT is a product made by coating the surface of pure titanium with CMP (Calcium Metaphosphate), a component identical to human bone. It decomposes slowly upon entering the bone.

Since bone forms readily around an implant and adheres to the surface easily, the “CMP-coated implant” enables fast bone buildup even for low-quality bones. The success rate of treatment is also high.

In addition, since the bone adheres directly to the titanium surface because the CMP coating on the titanium surface decomposes completely inside the bone, the limitation of the existing HA (Hydroxyapatite)-coated implant wherein the coating layer is peeled off has been solved.

Eom, Tae-gwan, VP at the OSSTEM Implant R&D Center, noted that the CMP-coated implant is a third-generation surface technology. “The technology for coating the implant surface directly with CMP material has been developed for the first time in the world. We expect to be able to apply it to orthopedic and plastic surgeries as well as to dental implants," he said.

On the other hand, OSSTEM IMPLANT received permission from the Korea Food & Drug Administration to conduct clinical tests for the “CMP-coated implant” based on the results of countless physical, chemical, and animal tests conducted during the 10-year development process.

Afterward, based on the clinical testing carried out on about 100 patients at Dankook University Dental Hospital and Chosun University Dental Hospital, OSSTEM was granted permission to sell the product by the Korea Food & Drug Administration on May 16 of this year.
